NOTE: This is an OOC Post outlining the updated process surrounding weapon permits. Any further sections in this forum, including the Weapon Permits Request section, are to be considered IC.
After about a week and a half of careful planning, an awesome new script thanks to Jockeyzz, and various opinions from both players and all levels of administration, we are finally updating how weapon permits will be handled on the server. We understand that this is a big change and will take some getting used to, but it is being implemented to help blur the bolder line between Illegal and Legal roleplay and promote RP on both sides. IC License abuse will either now be handled STRICTLY IC, or is prevented in the script totally. Specific rules regarding weapon permits should be considered null, however it should go without saying that basic RP, common sense, alt-alt, and all other baseline rules will remain in place.
Administration asks that ALL players, whether you plan on using this feature or not, familiarize themselves with the updated process in order to make this change a smoother slope for everyone. Below you can find the updated Licenses and the guidelines surrounding them.
License to Purchase a Firearm (PF):
ANY CHARACTER may apply for a License to Purchase a Firearm in order to buy a gun from Ammu-Nation. Any license holder may purchase up to (LIMIT) firearms before they must renew their license.
- The License to Purchase gives characters LEGAL permission to store weapons at their residence, for home defense and sport shooting purposes
- It does not give characters LEGAL permission to carry their weapon anywhere except their property. If a PF holder is caught by law enforcement improperly storing, carrying, selling, or otherwise abusing their licensed firearms, the PF will be immediately revoked and may result in further criminal charges, depending on the situation. They will NOT face any OOC consequences like jails or bans for doing so
- Any criminal charges laid by law enforcement, regardless of whether they are proven in court, may lead to a characters license being revoked and will be delegated on a case-by-case by First Court ICly
- PF holders may also be subject to random checks by Marshals, to ensure they are properly storing and securing their weapons in their homes.
- PF Holders will be held accountable for their permit by the government in-character. This means if Timmy sells a gun to a criminal for some extra cash but it gets traced back to him, law enforcement will be at his door. This also means while illegal faction members may acquire PFs, they likely would not want the extra attention or risk, and will be considered by administration on a case-by-case basis.
License to Carry a Concealed Weapon (CCW): Once a character has obtained a License to Purchase, they may apply for the harder-to-obtain CCW. - This will allow characters to carry their weapons LEGALLY, both OPEN and CONCEALED carry. CCW holders still may not LEGALLY sell their weapons to others, but will not face OOC consequences like jails or bans for doing so.
Current License Holders: All existing Weapon Permits will be transferred to PFs, meaning they may only carry their currently owned firearms if they apply for a CCW.
Now you may be thinking; “This sounds like it will lead to abuse.” The main purpose of this change is to promote IC things remaining IC and promoting the quality of roleplay overall. Things that players could once get banned or punished for doing regarding Weapon Permits are now either handled via IC law enforcement or prevented in the script directly. With the new script changes in place to go along with this, it’s now possible for the government to monitor licenses and pursue legal action against those that break the terms of their permit, so everything can remain IC. Additionally, administration can use this system to monitor any OOC abuse that may occur.
