It's Rockstars first official multiplayer release for anything. 48hrs before release they even ordered a batch of new servers to be set up to help with the server load, which as far as I've read are still being properly optimized to handle the server load.

As far as a friend has told me, he only had issue with the first race or something, but once he got past that he's had zero issues.
